Trail Spurs and Connectors Study

Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks has grown and developed a trail network that covers large portions of the County and links together areas of North, East, and West County. This trail network continues to grow and is used by County residents for recreation and as a mode of alternative transportation. This network includes the Baltimore and Annapolis (B&A) Trail, BWI Trail, Broadneck Peninsula Trail, South Shore Trail, and the Washington Baltimore and Annapolis (WB&A) Trail


In an effort to expand access to the trail system, the County seeks public input on how residents and visitors use the trails, and how it can best connect existing trails with parks, other trails, schools, and other public facilities and community hubs. The County has identified twenty-four (24) potential trail spurs and connectors, some on each trail, that are shown in the map below. Please provide your input on any or all of the trails through the surveys below.

Baltimore and Annapolis (B&A) Trail

The B&A Trail is a 13.3 mile paved trail following the route of the former Baltimore and Annapolis Railroad from Glen Burnie to Annapolis.

Broadneck Peninsula Trail

Broadneck Penninsula Trail is a paved trail generally located within the right of way of College Parkway in Arnold, Maryland.

The BWI Trail circles BWI Airport for an additional 12 miles of paved trail.

South Shore Trail

The South Shore Trail is a 11-mile planned shared-use rail trail that will run from Annapolis to Odenton.

Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis (WB&A) Trail

The WB&A Trail is a planned paved recreational trail from Odenton to the Patuxent River on the abandoned Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis Railroad right of way.
